Honours & Masters

  • Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research

    Deadline: 15 October 2020

    The Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research offers merit-based scholarships for Honours, Masters and Doctoral scholarships in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cape Town. The scholarships are funded by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), as part of the ICT Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Roadmap implementation. Advances in ICT supported by the RDI Roadmap aim to guide South Africa to a state of digital advantage that will strengthen economic competitiveness and enable an enhanced quality of life for all South Africans. The scholarships will be administered by the CSIR and the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR).
    The CAIR research unit at The University of Cape Town (CAIR-UCT) conducts research in the following sub-areas of AI:
    • Adaptive and Cognitive Systems
    • Machine learning
    • Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
    Successful applicants will register for a full-time Honours, Masters or Doctoral degree in Computer Science at
    the University of Cape Town. Masters and Doctoral students must be supervised by a member of CAIR-UCT.

  • DSI CSIR Inter-bursary Support Programme (IBS) 

    Closing Date: Friday, 23 October, 2020

    Late applications will not be considered.

    The IBS postgraduate bursary support is intended for students approved for- or registered for full time studies for Honours/ 4th year Engineering/BTech/Advanced Diploma, Masters or PhD degrees at any South African public university. The focus areas for the bursary support are restricted to the following research areas:

    • Aerospace
    • Composites
    • Modelling and Digital Sciences
    • Microsystems Technology
    • Titanium (Manufacturing Elements)
    • Photonics
    • Biotechnology:
      • Biopharming
      • Bioprocessing
      • Biocatalysis
    • Information and Communications Technology
    • Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS)
    • Health

  • Department of Information Systems: Call for Bursary Application

    The Department of Information is offering five one-year bursaries to study towards a BCom Honours degree majoring in Information Systems at the University of Cape Town (includes 4th year B.Bus.Sci students majoring in Information Systems at the University of Cape Town).

    In line with the UCT transformation agenda, priority will be given to funding Black South African and Black permanent resident applicants who qualify based on financial need. “Black” includes African, Coloured, and Indian students. “Financial need” refers to students who qualify via the National Means Test for either Financial Aid (where gross family income

    Bursaries will be awarded to the 5 top-performing eligible candidates.

    A one-year bursary to a black South African learner in support of the requirements of the B-BBEE Act. This bursary is for study at an accredited South African University towards an honours degree majoring in Computer Science or any other computer related degrees.

    A one-year bursary to a black South African learner in support of the requirements of the B-BBEE Act. This bursary is for study at an accredited South African University towards an honour’s degree majoring in Investment Management, Financial Analysis, Portfolio Management or similar Investment related honours degree.

  • HPI Scholarships

    Applications are open for prospective PhD and postdoctoral students in Information Systems or Computer Science to join the HPI Research School at UCT.

    Deadline: 15 August annually
